AVIF or WebP: what should you compare?
Compare AVIF and WebP on the images you will publish. Check image quality and app support as well as file size.
| Check | What to do |
|---|---|
| Visible quality | Compare edges, texture and gradients at the intended display size. |
| File size | Measure the actual exported files. |
| App support | Try the file in the app or website where it will be used. |
| Conversion cost | For a batch, measure processing time with the settings you intend to use. |
Keep the comparison controlled
Use the same original, dimensions and intended color appearance. Do not assume that matching quality numbers produce matching results.
The examples list their export settings. Different images can give different results.
