Why did an image get larger after conversion?
The new export may use a different compression mode, larger dimensions or more stored data. Converting a file does not promise a size reduction.
Compare like with like
| Check | Possible difference |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | The new image has more pixels. |
| Compression | The export uses lossless or higher-quality settings. |
| Color | The new file stores a different color representation or precision. |
| Extra data | Metadata or additional frames were retained or added. |
Avoid an unhelpful conversion
Changing a JPEG into PNG cannot restore lost detail. It can simply store the already-decoded result in a different way. Keep the larger version only when that format serves a real purpose.
For a smaller file, export again from the original instead of repeatedly converting the previous copy.
