Why will an image not open?
Check whether the app supports the actual file format. A familiar filename extension does not prove that the file contains that format or that it downloaded correctly.
Check in this order
- Keep the original file unchanged.
- Check the file size. An empty or unusually small download may be incomplete.
- Try an application that supports the format.
- When it opens there, export a copy in a format the receiving app accepts.
- Check the exported copy before replacing or deleting anything.
Renaming is not conversion
Changing .webp or .heic to .jpg changes the name, not the image encoding. Use a real export operation.
Do not upload a private image to an unfamiliar converter just to test it. The information tool here reads supported files locally, but it cannot repair a damaged file.
