WebP or JPEG for photos?

Compare JPEG and WebP exports at the same dimensions. Choose the smaller file that still looks good and opens where you need it.

Make a fair comparison

  1. Export both versions from the same original at the same pixel dimensions.
  2. Open each at the size it will be displayed. Check detail, smooth areas and sharp edges.
  3. Compare the file sizes only after both look acceptable.
  4. Confirm that the receiving app accepts the chosen format.

If the upload only accepts JPEG

Export a JPEG at the required dimensions. If it is too large, lower the JPEG quality and inspect the result.

The example gallery uses test graphics, not photos. Compare your own photo before choosing a format.
